The Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote in collaboration with the Canarian Government have opened a new supplementary feeding station in the island of Lanzarote. It is a fenced area where birds are feed with slaughterhouse remains. Soon after the first supplies a neighbouring breeding pair was observed feeding (see photo). The aim of this supplementary feeding program is to contribute to the recovery of the species in Lanzarote and the Chinijo archipelago where only five breeding pairs were found in 2016. Population growth is slower in Lanzarote (with respect to Fuerteventura) apparently because higher unnatural mortality (due to poisoning) and lesser availability of livestock resources.
